The Wishart Gate, originally the East Port, and the last vestige of Dundee's ancient medieval walls. These were destroyed in the parliamentary siege of 1651 when the city was taken and subject to plunder and murder as it had refused to surrender in the mistaken belief that a Royalist relief army was nearby (it had marched south to eventual defeat at Worcester) . It took decades for the city to recover from the brutal experience, and arguably never did. Full details of the siege can be found on Wikipedia.
