During the Second World War, this radar station was used by the Germans to protect Gilze airfields against the Allies.

During the war years, on the north side of the Goudbergseweg in Strijbeek, now the municipality of Alphen-Chaam, the radar station "Bisam Stelle" was part of the German radar chain Himmelbett. In the spring of 1942, this camp was built between the still existing Kilometerbaan and the Goudbergseweg. The entrance to the camp was on the Goudbergseweg. Two so-called "Wurzburg-Riese" radars and a Freya long-range radar were installed on the site. There was also a command post that was connected to the Fliegerhorst Gilze-Rijen. From the command post, the night fighters were guided to their target by means of the two Wurzburg-Riese radars, one for the enemy aircraft and the other for its own night fighter. The Freya radar scanned for enemy aircraft at a longer distance.
On October 2, 1944 there was a bombing that put an end to the camp "Bisam Stelle". What had not been destroyed was destroyed on October 4 by the Germans themselves.

The fragments of one of the concrete bases of the two Wurzburg-Riese radars can still be found on the former site.
