In 1910, Hilmar Freiherr von der Recke (1864–1937) became the owner of Rittershain Castle. A year later, he had this private cemetery built in the forest. He was buried here in 1937 and his wife Mathilde, née von der Malsburg, in 1975. Other graves belong to Peter von Wowern-Schmidt (1953), his wife Luise (1956) and the domestic servant Mary Hansen (1953). And the urn burial is that of Sibylle Helene Emma Freifrau von der Recke (2007). Recommended reading: Heinz Moch – Rittershain, History from the Middle Ages to Modern Times, 2008.

Hiking

A beautifully laid out forest grave site for the residents of the former Rittershain hunting lodge.
It is well hidden behind a crossroads, about 800m from the K50 and offers interesting and impressive sights.
