Tips

  • Streva collapse, also known as the sinkhole or sinkhole, is considered the sister of the Devil's pit. It is a mysterious place about which many legends and stories have been told. In ancient Lithuanian mythology, it is said that a tavern of devils was built here.
According to scientists, this ravine is a ravine of thermokarst origin, formed about 18 thousand years ago. As the glaciers receded, drifts and sediments sealed the broken block of ice, which, when it melted, opened a bowl-shaped cavity. The length of the collapse is about 150 meters, the width is 100 meters. A path of giant firs leads to a 20-meter deep pit. The viewing platform next to the collapse and the educational walking trail that surrounds it provide the opportunity to view this natural phenomenon from all sides. By the way, many poisonous plants can be found around.

  • According to one of the most well-known legends, a tavern once stood on the site of the collapse of Strėva, where devils used to live. It is said that they postponed the wedding on one day of fasting. As soon as the roosters crowed, the tavern began to burn with all the devils feasting in it. Local residents say that even these days mysterious and strange sounds sometimes come from the sinkhole. Today, the ridge of the roof of a wooden house sticks out at the bottom of the Strėva ravine like a reminder of a legend.
