A heath landscape similar to that which was widespread in Münsterland 200 years ago has been restored to its natural state on approximately 6 hectares of the Schirlheide forest. The Schirlheide Nature Reserve is now located here. Sheep and goats act as landscape guardians, preventing trees and shrubs from growing by grazing. The sun-loving heathland doesn't like shade at all. This spring, the frogs in the small heath ponds were doing their best. The frog concert could be heard all the way to the rest area. Absolutely beautiful. 🤩

The rest area is wonderful, slightly elevated so that you can enjoy the beautiful view of the small heathland. Two information boards provide information about the Schirlheide Nature Reserve.

The small heathland is not accessible. It is intended to be reserved for the protection of the animals and plants that live there.
