If you want to avoid mass tourism, start from the (free) hiking car park in Saint-Bonnet-du-Gard and follow the hiking trail in the direction of Pont du Gard.
And at this point here you can see the first remains of the Roman aqueduct. On both sides you can see the canals very well - very impressive!

Ruins of a former aqueduct. Unfortunately, as with the Pont de Valmale, there is not much left and what little is decaying more and more. Too bad actually. This building must have been very impressive.
