The arrival of the steam engine changed the world, people were no longer dependent on nature. Thanks to the Putter steam pumping station, the water level in the beautiful, bird-rich Arkemheene polder was kept at the right level for 85 years. The Putter steam pumping station is one of only eight working steam pumping stations in the Netherlands. Come and experience this unique heritage in action.
