A little story about the name:
The Mehlbacher Teich and its namesake, the Mehlbach, actually have a wrong name today!
The stream has nothing to do with flour or a mill, because it doesn't carry enough water for that over the year.
The pond's original name was Molbacher Teich. In Middle High German, the word "mol" meant something like newt or lizard. And these animals used to exist there too.
The name is still correct in the old maps of the Grand Duchy.
To this day, locals still pronounce the pond with a short first syllable, i.e. Melbacher Teich (pronounced: "Mellbacher").
Older people still pronounced the first syllable a little "towards Ö", sounding like "Möllbacher Teich".

The pond is currently being repaired because it was in danger of tipping over. Therefore, no water until further notice.
