Mirna Gora is a peak in the southeastern area of Kočevski Rog, a plateau in the Dinaric mountain system, bordering Suha krajina in the northwest, Kočevsko polje in the west, Črmošnjica and Bela krajina in the east and Kolpa valley in the south. The highest peak of the mountain range is Veliki Rog (1099 m), and Mirna gora is the highest peak in Bela krajina. Kočevski Rog is built mostly of Cretaceous, and in the southern part of Jurassic limestone, with dolomite appearing in between. In some places there are thin marly layers between the dolomite, which retain water on the surface; therefore, here and there, even in the area of Mirna gora, there are wells, short streams and puddles. The whole of Kočevski Rog is karstic, here we meet many karst sinkholes, hollows and abysses. The whole mountain range is overgrown mostly with spruce and beech forests, in between there are shrubs, where they were until the 2nd world. war settlements of the Kočevar family with modest fields and orchards, and now they are mostly overgrown with bushes. In the wider area of Mirna gora, such settlements were Sredgora, Gače, Škrilj and Ponikve. Only the village of Planina at the foot of Mirna gora is again modestly inhabited, mainly thanks to foresters. In the village there is a forest lodge with an interesting exhibition of forestry history, ethnology, tools and means of transport. The mountain trail from Planina to Mirna gora is at the same time a forest educational trail with seven stands, equipped with boards describing the characteristics of the forest, trees, herbs and fauna of Mirna gora. It is also home to brown bears, lynxes, wild boars, wolves and other mammals, as well as forest partridges, wild roosters, falcons, woodpeckers, kangaroos, hawks and owls. The top of Mirna gora is not scenic because it is overgrown with forest; it is 10 minutes away from the mountain lodge.

The summit of Mirna Gora is half a kilometer above the bell tower. Because it is in the middle of the forest, there is no view from the actual summit.
