Gologorica is located twelve kilometers northeast of Pazin on a Flysch ridge above the wide, fertile valley of the Raša basin. With 274 inhabitants (as of 2001) it is the second largest settlement in the municipality of Cerovlije. The 18th century church with a separate bell tower is in the center. In the entrance to the village there is a striking Romanesque archway. The surrounding landscape is characterized by deep watersheds that are cut into marl deposits. In the vicinity of Gologorica there is the Piskovica Cave, the longest cave in Istria.

The approach to the ascent to Golgorica leads through the flat valley of the Karbuna stream, which can be reached from Potpićan. At the head of the valley lies the village of Golgorički Dol. At the crossroads in the village keep to the left and immediately afterwards it's short and crisp with an average of 13% upwards.

The road builders gave us only one serpentine at the very beginning. In the bend, the road reaches the 20% mark for the first time. Then it's mercilessly straight up. Only after a slight right-hand bend do the percentages calm down to the apex shortly before the village of Golgorica.
