Best Hikes to Boka Waterfall

Tips

  • Boka is a karst spring, waterfall and torrent stream, which is a right tributary of the Soča. The length of the stream to the mouth of the Soča is less than one kilometer, which ranks it among the shortest watercourses in Slovenia. With a height of 106 m and a width of 18 m, the Boka waterfall is undoubtedly the most magnificent waterfall in Slovenia and also in Europe. If we add another 33 m high waterfall below it, we get probably the highest waterfall in Slovenia in terms of height (height 139 m).In the driest periods, the flow is still two cubic meters per second, with heavier rains the flow increases to a mighty hundred cubic meters per second. The Boka stream collects water in the Kanin Mountains, after which it flows underground and comes to light on a rock ledge along which it flows for about 30 m. Next, the stream carved a deep gorge. The waterfall is still growing, as the rocks on which it falls are less resistant than the threshold over which it flows.Despite its might, it is unfortunately not as well known as Savica, Rinka or Peričnik, although you could place all three next to each other, multiply them by three in width, "might" would hardly be enough for a single Boka. It is nicely visible from the road just before Bovec (from the direction of Kanin-Bovec).
