The Steinheimer Börde in the Upper Weserbergland, between Egge and Weser, is a round intramontane basin of about 15 km in diameter. It is lined with fertile loess and was therefore settled early, whereby the original forest was almost completely cleared. All around, the basin is framed by wooded mountains and towered over.
