Mountain biking
Sandstone is next to the granite the formative rock of the Odenwald. Here at Hammelbach a kind of border runs: in the west there's granite, east Buntsandstein. It was mined here until the 1959s. The rock was mainly processed by sculptors. If you want to get an idea of what that looked like, take that short dangling from the main route. Here is one of the five old sandstone quarries of Litzelbach including information signs.

The Litzelbach quarries were known for the hard, high-quality rock beyond the region. Around the turn of the century, around 300 men worked in the 6 quarries.
