The Berkenhuisje has a rich history. The house in which the Jacobs family lived for many years is particularly famous because the highly regarded painter Pierre Jacobs had his studio in it. Pierre Jacobs is known for his beautifully painted landscapes, but certainly also cityscapes, religious, wall paintings at DAF headquarters Eindhoven and nudes.
The Berkenhuisje stood in a different location until 1948. A piece of forest on the corner of Laarstraat and Genneperweg in Waalre, which was created after the departure of the Fam. Jacobs is called the peacocks and/or Jacobsbos.

Henricus van Woezik, café and restaurateur, rented it to Pierre and Sientje Jacobs who turned it into an Atelier. In and around the house there was also a tea shop with all kinds of animals, including Monkey as an attraction, where drinks, etc. had to be paid for. 'Behind the curtain' was the liquor for civilians, outsiders and poachers. This way they could provide some extra income during these difficult times.

On June 4, 2009, upon the death of the last resident, widow Sientje Jacobs van Ameiden, a conservation and renovation plan was further developed. This has resulted in a new destination starting on November 8, 2013 as a guest studio for artists with the intention that they can work there, stay there and certainly also exhibit the works made there.
