The pumping station H.C. de Jongh in Aalst provides the inlet and outlet of water for the area between the Waaldijk, Meidijk, Rijksweg Utrecht - Den Bosch, and the line across Bruchem, Kerkwijk and Aalst. The pumping station "de Baanbreker" near Wellseind takes care of the other part of the Bommelerwaard.

It was put into operation in 1936 by the dijkgraaf H.C. de Jongh, he was chief dike of the Bommelerwaard above the Meidijk from 1924-1937. The electric pumping station replaced two previous pumping stations, a steam pumping station with a Fijnje pump from 1854 and a steam pumping station with a paddle wheel from 1882, both of which were located slightly east of the current pumping station.
