Geraberg thermometer tower

The Geraberg thermometer tower is a wooden construction with internal thermometer capillaries. The height of the tower is 11.11 m. The tower is built from four glued wood trusses, which show the displays in Celsius, Kelvin, Réaumur and Fahrenheit.
The thermometer capillary is designed as a double capillary in order to keep the amount of liquid small according to the intended display sensitivity. Nevertheless, the seven-part thermometer liquid container contains 70l of colored petroleum, which can cover a measuring range of 100 ° C. Alternating fans are installed in order to achieve a favorable heat transfer to the thermometer vessels and a low tendency to condensation.
Other metrological parameters are displayed on the pillars via high-performance LEDs. In order to increase the display effect of the double capillary, the inner capillary is equipped with LED strips. In order to ensure that the visibility from below remains appropriate, an embankment is partially made around the tower so that the average annual temperature (around 6 ° Celsius) can be read easily.
