The Hase is a 169.6 km long, eastern and orographically right tributary of the middle Ems in the district of Osnabrück, in the urban district of Osnabrück, in the district of Cloppenburg and in the district of Emsland (all in Lower Saxony) and in the district of Steinfurt (in North Rhine-Westphalia) .
Its catchment area is 3086 km².
Near Gesmold, the Else branches off the Hase in the artificially created Hase-Else bifurcation, as a result of which part of its water also flows into the Weser river system.
Much further north, the Hase branches off at Quakenbrück in an inland delta beginning there, the Hasedelta, into the Great Hase and Little Hase.
