Former Diedrichsburg Wildlife Park

In 2021 the park was abandoned and some of the animals were relocated to other wildlife parks. The reason for this is that new guidelines stipulate minimum sizes for wildlife parks in which the animal population is regulated by hunting. The enclosure in Melle fell short of this minimum size by around 30 hectares. In addition, the advancing African swine fever was seen as a threat to the wild boar population of around 180 animals.
The fences are gradually being dismantled. The site as well as the Diedrichsburg with gastronomy should remain accessible to visitors and hikers.
