Rondvassbu is located in the middle of the Rondane National Park, with enticing peaks in all directions. The cabin is located at the southern end of Rondevatnet. The Svartnuten lies directly behind the hut, other peaks in the immediate vicinity are the Vinjeronden, Storronden and the highest of all, the Rondslottet (2178 m).
Rondvassbu is the largest DNT hut in Rondane. Built in 1903 and bought by the DNT in 1929, since then it has been extended and rebuilt several times.

Rondvatnet is a narrow lake in Rondane National Park. At the southern end of the Norwegian hiking club maintains the DNT hut Rondvassbu. Rondvatnet separates the eastern part of Rondane from the western part Smiubelgen.
In the summer season there is a ferry service on the lake, which transports hikers between the southern and the northern end.
