Catholic parish church Son Lurintg, Riom
The Laurentius Church can be considered the oldest sanctuary in Oberhalbstein. The oldest building on this site dates back to the 6th/7th century. Even if the patronage is not documented in the Middle Ages, Laurentius is always referred to as the patron. St. Laurentius worked in Rome as archdeacon under Pope Sixtus II and was killed by the sword in 285 during the persecution of Christians under Emperor Valerian. In art he is depicted in the official robe of a deacon and with a rectangular wheel, because the legend tells of death on the grill.
Previous churches were consecrated in 1461 and 1493. The current baroque building was consecrated on October 2, 1677. The village fire of 1864 also affected the Laurentius Church. The last restorations took place in 1936 and 1955.
