Gabet is the narrow passage to Odense Fjord between Hals on Enebærodde and Lodshuse on Hindsholm. The fairway is only 400 m wide and up to 14 m deep –

a stark contrast to Odense Fjord, which is only 2.25 m deep on average.

But here in Gabet, all ships can pass, and therefore even very large ships sometimes pass on their way to or from the Odense Canal.

There is a strong current in the channel, so swimming is not possible here.

Before the Enebærodde lighthouse was built, there were many shipwrecks

in the narrow and dangerous shipping channel.

Many large ships passed by when the Odense Steel Shipyard on Lindø – also known as Lindø Shipyard – built large container ships, frigate ships, and many other vessels. The last newly built ship was a frigate for the Danish Navy, delivered in 2012. Today, most sailboats sail through Gabet.

There are good fishing opportunities here, as all fish must pass through the narrow passage.

You have a magnificent view from here, and you can see far across the Odense Fjord and the Enebærodden lighthouse opposite.

Here you can see the end of Odense Fjord. There is only a narrow passage (gab) of less than 500 meters before you can sail from Odense Fjord into Samsø Bælt and further into Kattegat.

From Gabet you can see the Enebærodden lighthouse on the other bank.
