Vilshofen an der Donau is located at the confluence of the tributaries Vils, Pfudrach and Wolfach, south of the Bavarian Forest, a good 20 kilometers upstream from Passau. Because of these tributaries into the Danube, the city is also called the small three-river city, while the three-river city of Passau serves as a model. The north-south extension of the urban area is about 6 km and the east-west extension about 10 km. The height above sea level ranges from 309 to 457 m above sea level. NHN.

The beer cycle path begins at the Biertor, which runs along the Vilsradweg to Aldersbach and also ends there under a beer gate.
