The Hallerbos (French: Bois de Hal) is a forest with an area of 552 ha southeast of Halle (511 ha on Hals territory). The forest is largely owned by the Flemish Region and a small part of the Walloon Region and private property. The Hallerbos forms a quiet recreational area, which is highly appreciated by the population of the surrounding highly urbanized zones. It is very accessible thanks to the many paths, and three walking routes have been mapped out for an introduction. The forest is part of the Flemish Ecological Network, has been a Flemish nature reserve since 2021 [1] and is European protected as Natura 2000 area 'Hallerbos and nearby forest complexes with source areas and heathland' (BE2400009) (together with other subareas such as the Mark valley, Zuun valley with domain of Gaasbeek, De Wolfsputten, Kesterbeek valley, Kesterheide, the forest reserve Terrijst, Lembeekbos, Zevenbrons, Gasthuisbos, Begijnenbos).
