This stream in the Belgian Ardennes has its source north of Francorchamps. It quickly forms a deep valley, wooded and very sparsely inhabited. Then, the valley takes on a more bucolic aspect and the pastures follow the forest areas. There are many viewpoints to the delight of hikers. The Roannay then crosses the hamlets of Ruy and Moulin du Ruy before finishing its course of 11 kilometers on the right bank of the Amblève in Roanne-Coo between the Coo waterfall and the village of La Gleize.

The stream has good biological and ecological quality. A study commissioned by the Walloon Region in 2014 noted a good presence of trout, sculpins and small lampreys, which are species of great ecological value, and qualified the biological quality of Roannay as good to very good (both for fish and for diatoms, macrophytes, macroinvertebrates). However, the banks of the stream have many colonies of Japanese knotweed and Himalayan balsam.

The Roannay flows from Francorchamps towards La Gleize, where it finally flows into the Amel. On its way it has formed a beautiful valley that is excellent for hiking.
