Former gatehouse of the Cistercian monastery with heraldic stone and artistic weather vane, the landmark of the city - and the municipality of Bersenbrück.
The magnificent baroque coat of arms of those of "Nyvenheim-Boetzelaer" above the archway of the gate is the only surviving coat of arms from the monastery period. The inscription reads: "To honor God, to adorn the order, for the sake of posterity, Maria Catharina von Nyvenheim, abbess in Bersenbrück, anno 1700, October 14th had this gate built."
When Bersenbrück became office in 1817, the official prison ("Up de Porten") was set up in the north wing of the gate house, initially with two and later with four cells. Abbess Dorothea Sophia von Moltke had the bridge over the monastery moat built in the 13th century renewed in 1728.
