On November 2, 1917, a very ornate monument was unveiled at the place of the wooden cross, built according to the project of Professor Georg Grasegger, which is only one of many copies of the Prussian architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel's "lion" built in various parts of Europe.
He depicted a huge lion sleeping on a granite platform as a symbol of peace and tranquility. The lion figure is made of sandstone. On this monument was an inscription in large letters: "Den Helden des Weltkriges" ("To the Heroes of the World War"). On the other side of the monument was carved a helmeted soldier's head, and below it the inscription: "Was die Kinder erben sollen ist der Vater Heldesinn" ("Children must inherit the heroism of their parents"). The sculpture was buried in the ground and discovered in 2001. in the spring during maintenance work. The sculpture was broken into pieces. It was reconstructed and moved a little further from the center, where it used to stand, because a 4.5 m. high stone cross.
