Directly on the moor is the Dosenmoor information center, which is run by the association of the same name exclusively on a private, voluntary basis. In February 2002 a statute for the association was established. The aim is to draw attention to the unique upland moor ecosystem, to show the special features of this community and to motivate fellow citizens to preserve this refuge.

The Dosenmoor is the best preserved Atlantic high moor in Schleswig-Holstein. With its still recognizable clock-glass-shaped bulge and a spacious extension of 521 hectares, it still gives a fascinating impression of a landscape type that was once characteristic of Schleswig-Holstein. At the end of the 1970s, peat extraction was stopped and the Dosenmoor was placed under nature protection in 1981.

The current state of the Dosenmoor and the various signs of degeneration are the result of human interventions that lasted for centuries. The history of peat extraction methods and peat utilization from the canned bog is to be documented in the information center, among other things. Likewise, the characteristics of the raised bog formation and the raised bog protection with in particular the flora and fauna should be shown. The nature reserve offers an impressive experience in all seasons and in all weathers.

The further planning, further development and operation of the Dosenmoor Info Center in Neumünster is one of the main goals of the association.
