The 1927 lock in the Linde is located more than 13.5 inland and was constructed as a sea-resistant lock in the Nieuwe Lindedijk. The lock formed part of the canalisation of the river that used to flow freely to the Zuiderzee. The Nieuwe Lindedijk was constructed in 1828 as a direct result of the flood disaster of 3 and 4 February 1825. A single barrier was constructed in the dyke. This was converted into a lock in 1870. The original staff residence is on the north bank.
