The fountain by the sculptor Jan Bormann from Castrop-Rauxel, inaugurated as part of the redesign of the market square (1983/84), combines many details of the city's history. There lies the river deity Guntia, the town's namesake, in the octagonal water basin. On the edge of the basin are a Roman coin, a medallion depicting various towers of the city and a Maria Theresa thaler.
