The predecessor of the Bismarck Tower was a temple built in 1896 on the Litzelröder Höhe. On May 22, 1903, church councilor Freienseher and mayor Schnellbächer proposed building a Bismarck Tower to replace the temple. Members of the local Odenwald Club and the city administration's beautification association formed a committee to build the tower. The total cost of 9,000 marks was financed through donations and income from several local events. The tower was built according to plans by Ferdinand Luthmer from Frankfurt am Main between May 1, 1906 and July 7, 1907; the last major renovation took place in 1997/98.
