The centuries-old Ägidikirche stands on an old place of worship on the Hohenstein. St. Aegidius (around 700) was one of the most popular saints in Europe in the Middle Ages.

The "Jägerstein" was erected by the Engerwitzdorfer Jägerschaft on the rocky slope behind the church and, by the way, is shown on the community's emergency money from 1920.

The church was closed when I visited, but you can look inside through the small "Guggerl" window to the right of the gate.😉

The Jägerstein is also very impressive to look at - especially when the cross between the deer antlers is made to shine by the sun.😃
