Ermida de Nossa Senhora da Rocha

At Armaçao de Pera stands the Ermida de Nossa Senhora da Rocha chapel.

Worth a visit mainly for its location: 35 meters above the ocean on a narrow promontory just wide enough to accommodate the chapel. And it gets narrower as the edges of the cliff crumble into the sea.

The small pilgrim chapel was built by fishermen in the 16th century. It has a beautiful altar protected only by a pane of glass. The columns date back to the 6th or 7th century when Visigoths lived in the Algarve.
From the headland you have a great panoramic view of the beaches left and right, of the city of Armacao de Pera and far out to sea.

The way to the beaches is also worthwhile. They are connected with a rock tunnel.

The Capela de Nossa Senhora da Rocha is a pretty pilgrimage chapel on a rocky outcrop on the south coast of the Algarve. It is located south of Porches and west of Armação de Pêra. The chapel was built by fishermen in the 16th century in honor of the Holy Mary. The Holy Mary with the Child can also be seen through a glass front.

Built on a rocky spur high above the sea, the small chapel is definitely worth a visit; especially since you can enjoy a wonderful view of the wide ocean from here. Unfortunately the chapel was closed today. We would also have liked to take a look at the interior of this little gem.
