The route, marked by special signs, reveals the territory from which the sought after Carema DOC wine originates. The ring crosses the town and reaches panoramic points that offer an overview of the beautiful Carema basin. The historic center is well preserved, with buildings of medieval origin and the houses hide old cellars. Along the path you will come across a special place, an amphitheater of vines supported by a succession of pillars and pergolas. It is a walk for all seasons but it is advisable to do it in autumn, when the colors of the vineyards become warmer and more vivid.

Con i mezzi pubblici: Autobus SADEM linea 265 Torino-Ivrea-Pont Saint Martin, fermata Carema. Orari e informazioni: sadem.it, tel. 011 3000611

In auto: Autostrada Torino-Aosta, uscita Quincinetto. Da qui imbocchiamo la SS26 verso Pont Saint Martin, e arrivati alla rotonda all’ingresso di Carema giriamo a destra in direzione del centro storico, percorrendo via Torino per 400 m per lasciare l’auto nel piccolo parcheggio in corrispondenza del campo sportivo.

DESCRIZIONE

Percorriamo via Torino in direzione nord, e arrivati in prossimità dell’incrocio con la SS26 giriamo a destra, imboccando un viottolo poco visibile che costeggia l’area di servizio. Subito dopo teniamo la sinistra e incrociamo la via Francigena, che seguiremo fino all’abitato di Carema. Il sentiero sale ripido tra i vigneti, di cui possiamo ammirare i caratteristici “pilun”. Arrivati alla cappella di San Rocco, risalente al XVII secolo, dove è presente un’area di sosta in cui possiamo riposarci, la costeggiamo sulla sinistra, per arrivare a un primo punto panoramico sul centro storico di Carema. Scendiamo lungo una ripida scalinata, percorriamo una strada interpoderale in cui possiamo osservare sulla sinistra i caratteristici terrazzamenti, costeggiamo il punto di partenza di una cremagliera utilizzata in passato dai contadini ed entriamo nell’abitato. Costeggiamo la Casa della Musica, sede della banda, e arriviamo in via Basilia, in prossimità di un’antica fontana datata 1571.

Saliamo verso la chiesa parrocchiale di San Martino, giriamo a destra per arrivare a una piazzetta dove possiamo ammirare il campanile della chiesa parrocchiale (XVIII secolo), la fontana di San Matteo, datata 1460, e l’omonima chiesa romanica. Poco dopo vale la pena di fare una piccola deviazione e girare a sinistra sul via Senevera e poi su via Piazzetta, per apprezzare il Palazzotto Ugoneti, un’interessante casaforte medievale. Torniamo sui nostri passi, riprendiamo via San Matteo, e arriviamo in prossimità di un’altra casaforte: la “Gran Masun”, un edificio alto-medievale sede di un info-point e di un museo multimediale sul vino e i paesaggi vitati.

We continue straight on a cart track, cross an asphalted road and take a path that winds through the vineyards. At a Y junction we keep the right uphill along a very scenic stretch, up to the Siei chapel, dedicated to San Grato, where we begin the descent.

Arrived at a crossroads at the edge of the wood, we take a narrow path that goes down to the right between two dry stone walls and comes out on a cart track that we take to the right. Shortly after we skirt a spectacular vineyard, in the shape of an amphitheater.

We continue downhill until we cross a small stream on a cobbled road and walk on a cart track that takes us back to the historic center of Carema, but before arriving there we turn left onto a path that descends through the vineyards. Before reaching the asphalted road, we turn left onto a path that runs alongside a vineyard and arrives near via Nazionale. We take the road on the right to reach the roundabout where the Produttori del Nebbiolo di Carema winery is located: here it is possible to buy the wine of which we have just crossed the production areas. We continue via Torino to return to the starting point.
