The now dilapidated wooden cabin was built in 1910 by Carl Bishop as a second home out of Cottonwoodtrees. He abandoned it when the river overflowed and it was no longer possible to live on the valley floor with the farm and livestock.

The architecture of the cabin is called the "Dog Trot" cabin because the two rooms are separated by a covered passageway. The "Dog Trot" separated the kitchen from the living quarters to allow a cooler living area and so that a possible kitchen fire would not destroy the living area of the house.
