Very imposing rock formations made of slate in the area of the Ahrschleife nature reserve on the geological hiking trail

The Ahrschleife in the Langfigtal is the largest meander loop in the river. From Altenahr, the AhrSteig leads along the three-kilometer loop of the river. Textbook-like in the course of the water, the difference between impact and sliding slope can be recognized. There is a geological hiking trail at the Ahrschleife, as the surface-shaping processes from 400 million years of geological history can be read from the steeply towering slate sections of the Rhenish Slate Mountains. In the Langfigtal there are fallow vineyards with overgrown slopes. Their dry stone walls provide a habitat for heat-loving animals and plants.

Path was difficult to navigate but doable. Obviously residual symptoms of the flood
