The linden tree from Naters was mentioned in a document as early as 1357 and was called "magnam" (large) by the writer at the time. However, court was also held under the more than 600-year-old Natischer linden tree. Next to the tree, which is hollow inside, was the medieval pillory to punish the perpetrators. the base of a former pillory column is still visible, to which the convicts were fastened with iron ribbons and displayed.
