In Obernkirchen there is not only the women's monastery Obernkirchen, but also a Roman Catholic church, which is located on a small hill. It was built from sandstone. Further information is available at: stmarien-bueckeburg.de/kirchen/st-josef.

The eastern church is on the corner of Bahnhofstraße and Heyestraße. It was built according to the plans of the architect August Greifzu from Mainz in the Neo-Romanesque style.
The magnificent church made of gray sandstone impresses with its location on a hill in the center of town. The 38 m high church tower with a helmet roof rises on the north-east side. A rosette is built into the outer wall of the west facade under the gable. The nave of the church with four bays is 23 m long and 9.50 m wide. A staircase on the west side leads to the main entrance.
The stained glass windows in the sanctuary, the cross above the altar and the ambo are eye-catching. On the left side next to the nave there is a figure of Mary (Josef Franke), a figure of St. Anthony of Padua and a figure of St. Joseph (Josef Franke). The Stations of the Cross can be seen on the right side of the nave (Josef Franke).
Three bells are housed in the church tower: an f-bell (dedicated to Our Lady), a g-bell (dedicated to St. Joseph) and an a-bell (dedicated to St. Boniface).
