The two twin water towers symbolize "the gates of the city" are a landmark for all the districts. Located on the edge of the Bois de la Grange, emerging from the trees, they constitute a symbolic link between the city and its natural environment: the forest and the sky.
Their dressing was the subject of an international competition launched by EPAMARNE (public establishment of development of Marne-la-Vallée) in 1972 to which eleven artists including J.M. Folon, Ch. De Portzamparc and F. Rieti respond.
The winner of the competition, Maurice Garnier, wanted to represent protective beings (sun and moon) in the manner of totems. The first of the 2 totems was put into service in 1974. It is covered with mosaic glass paste, symbolizing the sun.
The second, left in its raw state, was put into service in 1992. With a capacity of 2000 m3 each, they supply drinking water to the inhabitants of the sector and represent a total height of 62.45 meters and a diameter of 21.60 meters.
