The citadel of Namur, in Belgium, is a former stronghold located in Wallonia and dominating the city and the confluence. It is one of the largest citadels in Europe and its vast underground network earned it the nickname "The termite mound of Europe" by Napoleon I. From the remains of the Count's castle to the bastions and terraces with more recent cannons, it bears witness to more than a thousand years of history.
The site is divided into three parts (strata): Keep, representing the lower part, Median for the middle part and Terra Nova for the upper part. Its summit rises to 190 m above sea level.
This is classified as an exceptional real estate heritage of the Walloon Region. It is made up of many residential areas (rear of the castle), a historic heart (the three layers: fortifications and castle) and a long forest.
A cable car connects the city center to the citadel.
