Named after Dean DeCarli, a former Stockton Mayor who is also called the "Father of Development in Stockton." The square was dedicated in 2001 as part of downtown revitalization. The plaza's permanent shade structures, water feature and landscaping received numerous awards, including the AIA Award, Phoenix Award, and Council of Government Award. It is occasionally rented for open air markets, craft, and entertainment events.
