Willibrord was a Northumbrian missionary saint, known as the "Apostle to the Frisians" in the modern Netherlands. He became the first Bishop of Utrecht and died at Echternach, Luxembourg. (source: wikipedia)On the hill Helperknapp a spring rises inside a small chapel, which is called Willibrord Chapel, due to the statue of Willibrord located next to the chapel. It is assumed that the source was already used for religious purposes in Gallo-Roman times. The so-called Gehaans Chapel is located 40 metres from the Willibrord Chapel. The Helperknapp was already known as a place of pilgrimage in the Middle Ages and the Helpermaart, which was one of the largest markets in the region, was held annually on the Helperknapp.(source: visitluxembourg.com)
