Querciola Castle with the church dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta is an ancient village in the Reggio Apennines in the municipality of Viano. It was a fiefdom for about five centuries, excluding a short period, of an ancient noble Reggio family: the Fogliani. The investiture took place on 23 August 1233 and for some years it has been remembered with a village festival which generally takes place in the last weekend of August. A walk in the village of Castello Querciola will allow you to admire the fourteenth-century church, the stone houses of the time and a visit to the interior of the recently restored rectory with the opportunity to admire the friezes by Lelio Orsi, a painter of the sixteenth century originally from Novellara (RE). Under the rectory it is also possible to visit an ancient oratory dedicated to the Madonna del Rosario with a fresco on the wall, circa 1500, of the Madonna with Child and saints.
