    The design of the mushroom was basically simple: a concrete post with a number of wooden boards with plate names and distances on it. It soon became apparent that the construction was quite susceptible to vandalism. That is why the ANWB fitted a number of mushrooms with a steel cap in 1927 as a test. The next 'update' was to omit the concrete head. A big improvement, because the mushroom only weighed 80 kilos instead of 145 kilos. They were much easier to install. Well, the schus turned out
