In 1836 the previous building was demolished and a new church was built in the same place. In 1900 the building burned down after a lightning strike. The current church was built in 1902 in the neo-Gothic style. In 1944 a bomb damaged the church; the reconstruction took five years. In 1949, the regional bishop Mitzenheim consecrated the repaired church (Wikipedia).
