The longest bridge on the Erzbahn route, at 344 m, now runs over the former railway bridge. In the direction of Bochum, another highlight awaits just behind the bridge at Holger's Erzbahnbude.
At 344 m, the pillar railway is the longest bridge section on the Ore Railway. It was built in 1918–1919 to connect the Alma colliery to the railway. The bridge's carriageway is 14 meters above ground level. The structure spans the Gelsenkirchen-Wanne freight railway line with two half-timbered structures 33 meters long and the Cologne-Minden railway with 45.6 meters. In between there are 21 steel fields, each 13.35 meters long, which are screwed to the foundation and could therefore be adjusted if mountain damage occurred. The bridge's repairs were completed at the end of 2005. The box bridges were lifted during the renovation. (Wikipedia)

The point of decision. Is it going to Bochum to the Jahrhunderthalle (steady uphill but moderate) in 6 km, or to Essen to the Zollverein colliery via the Himmelsleiter and the Mechtenberg?
Or you can stay here and drink a beer...
