A beautiful house that suddenly appears next to the footpath. I had to Google to see what the function of the house once was.The house was first mentioned in 1400 when Reinholt and Wolter van Coeverden were enfeoffed by the Utrecht bishop with 'dat guet, geheiten Weecdam'. At the time it was little more than a farm. The Van Coeverdens family owned the property until 1849. The current house was built in 1758 for the couple Johan Heidenrijk van Coeverden and Allegonda Isabella van Raesfelt. At the beginning of the nineteenth century it was extended at the rear. The Wegdam was bought in 1897 by Maria Cornelia van Heeckeren van Wassenaer and added to the Weldam estate; since then there have been no substantial changes in the surrounding landscape.
