In colloquial terms it is often thrown into the proverbial “one pot”, but in terms of content a distinction must be made between “labyrinth” and “maze”. You can't get lost in the "labyrinth" (like in the "maze"), but rather - slowed down by many loops and detours - you walk inexorably towards the center. Wikipedia says about the labyrinth: “a winding, branch-free path whose lines inevitably lead to the goal, the center, with regular changes of direction.”
According to Christian mysticism, this center in the middle of the labyrinth is God himself, to whom man (as a pilgrim on earth) travels in the labyrinth of life.
