A Romanesque-style church, a statue of San Barnaba from the remains of an ancient temple, all wrapped in an olive grove, on the rolling hills around Cisternino.

The large church, in Baroque style until 1967, consisted of a central nave with a high vault and two aisles with a low vault. The central nave ended with the small presbytery and the altar of the Madonna. The priest prof. Quirico Punzi made various changes from 1967 onwards including: the small presbytery was replaced with the current masonry complex, with an artistic basilica-style altar in the center, the painting of the Madonna was placed in the precious marble niche, it was completed the churchyard with chianche.From time immemorial, an ancient chapter disposition establishes that the clergy of Cisternino have the obligation to carry themselves in procession, together with the brotherhood and the people, from the parish to the sanctuary on Easter Monday and at dawn on August 15. This rite confirms the tradition according to which in Cisternino there were two small communities of monks, called Basilians. Every day of the year, and in particular on Saturdays, it becomes an obligation
