The Fochteloërveen is a 2500 hectare (ha) nature reserve on the border of the Dutch provinces of Friesland and Drenthe, near the village of Veenhuizen. It is one of the few areas in the Netherlands where there are still living raised bogs[1] and it enjoys national and European protection.
