The house and garden of the writer Hermann Hesse (1877-1962). The garden was particularly dear to Hermann Hesse. After a long period of neglect, the Hermann Hesse estate, thanks to the dedication of the current owners, conveys the authentic aura of its early years. Further information: hermann-hesse-haus.de.

In 1907, the Hesse family moved into their own home in Gaienhofen, after renting a farmhouse for several years. Between 1912 and 1916, Hermann Hesse planted a large self-sufficient garden with berries, vegetables, and fruit trees, as well as numerous flower beds, on the meadowland surrounding his house. It is the first and only garden he designed and planted from scratch himself.
